PNC/MLA Committee Reports

Annual Conference Planning Committee

Co-Chairs

Purpose

The PNC/MLA Annual Conference is held each fall (Sept-Nov) and has moved to virtual format. Volunteers are essential to the planning and organizing the annual conference including developing a theme, content including keynote speaker, other invited speakers, poster sessions, roundtables, contributed papers vs. invited papers, research and/or student papers, and panels. During the initial planning period, monthly 1-hour virtual meetings be held. If you would like to participate, please consider volunteering to lead or participate in one or more of the following interest areas:

  • Registration
  • Exhibits
  • Papers and Posters
  • Continuing Education (coordinated by the PNC/MLA Education Committee, with a local liaison)
  • Website
  • Publicity
  • Technical Support
If you are interested, please contact us about joining this committee and any planning areas you'd like to support, before March 30. Members who have indicted interest in this committee when joining/renewing their membership may also be contacted directly by planners.

Communications & Website Committee

Chair

Jonathan Ratliff

Purpose

The Communications & Website Committee maintains PNC/MLA's website content, coordinates communication between the PNC Board and members, and manages PNC's online archives.

Goals

Improving the organization of PNC/MLA's online historical material and supporting other committees' use of the PNC website for communications.

Members of the Communications & Website Committee support PNC/MLA by creating and updating website content, writing news and blog posts, and promoting PNC/MLA activities across various communication channels such as email and listservs.


Community Building & Belonging Committee

Purpose

To promote and support belonging and community building for all members across the region.

Goals

To foster collegiality and a culture of care among the PNC/MLA community and beyond.

Supporting PNC/MLA, in alignment with the MLA CBBC, the PNC/MLA CBBC shall do the following:

  • promote and encourage an PNC/MLA leadership that is representative of the organization's varied membership at all levels;
  • be a voice for belonging within PNC/MLA;
  • advise and collaborate with PNC/MLA communities and committees on community building and belonging-related issues;
  • encourage, recommend and contribute to belonging-related programs, events and resources for PNC/MLA members and the public;
  • recommend strategies that contribute to a fair, representative and engaged profession;
  • lead special belonging-related projects as directed by the PNC/MLA Board.

LIS Student & Career Development Committee

Purpose

To assess need for, plan, offer, and evaluate continuing education programs for PNC/MLA members. To develop liaisons with students and new librarians with experienced medical librarians; to provide information on medical library opportunities such as internships and practicum; and to encourage potential library school students to consider medical librarianship.

Purpose

Membership management and recruitment for PNC/MLA.

Goals

Recruit new members and encourage renewals by current members by communicating the value of membership.

Current project

Create a spreadsheet of potential sources for outreach, learning what would be of value to our members by surveying members.


Scholarship Committee

Chair

Mary Beth McAteer

Purpose

The Committee administers member awards and student scholarships funded by PNC/MLA to promote, recognize, and encourage professional development and excellence among its members, including student members interested in health sciences librarianship.

Goals

To advance professional development and excellence in health sciences librarianship by inclusively administering and awarding PNC/MLA scholarships to Chapter members, including student members.
